Who we are
About Maritza
Maritza’s life story is a testament to the power of education, service and community engagement. Born in Laredo, Texas she moved to Lubbock at a young age, where she learned English while attending school. This experience instilled in her a deep understanding of the challenges faced by immigrant families and ignited a lifelong passion for advocacy.
Education
Even in her youth, Maritza demonstrated exceptional leadership skills, serving as Student Council President during her junior high and high school years. After graduating from Frenship High School, she attended Texas Tech University, where she was selected to participate in the Ronald E. McNair Post-baccalaureate Achievement Program as a first-generation college student. After graduating from TTU with degrees in history and Spanish, Maritza worked as a youth counselor in Lubbock and Hockley County before pursuing her law career. This experience provided her with invaluable insights into the complexities of social issues and solidified her commitment to serving her community.
Legal Background
Maritza earned her Juris Doctor degree from St. Mary's University Law School in San Antonio, Texas, where she studied Mexican Civil Law at the Universidad de Guanajuato and worked as a student attorney in the immigration clinic. Maritza then gained extensive trial experience practicing law in Killeen, focusing on assisting active and retired military soldiers. In 2011, she returned to Lubbock to establish Gamboa Law, where she assists clients with criminal, family, CPS, and immigration legal needs.
Maritza’s commitment to professional excellence is evident in her long-standing membership in the College of the State Bar of Texas, as well as her affiliations with numerous legal organizations, including the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, American Immigration Lawyers Association and the Texas Family Lawyers. She has also honed her trial skills through her participation in prestigious programs such as the Trial Lawyers College.
Beyond her legal accomplishments, Maritza is deeply committed to her community. As a Founder and Board Member of Manos Unidas, she works to empower individuals and strengthen neighborhoods. The non-profit organization fosters collaboration among grassroots groups and implements preventative programs for youth. The organization also provides scholarships to help economically disadvantaged children in youth sports.
